
Stop Letting Humidity Kill Your Heaters
If you’ve ever put a standard infrared heater in a wash-down area or a damp shop, you know the drill. They just don’t last. You install them, everything looks great for a while, and then—pop—they short out and die. It’s frustrating and a total waste of money. That’s exactly why we built our IPX4-rated line. We wanted something that could actually handle a splash without turning into an expensive paperweight. The secret is in the seals. Most heaters have these weak spots where the wiring hits the heating element. Moisture loves those gaps. It seeps in, causes oxidation, and eventually shorts the whole thing out. We fixed that by using specialized gaskets and housings that keep the guts of the machine bone-dry. Now, water can hit it from any angle, and it just bounces off. Dealing with the “fog” problem Then there’s the condensation. You might think a little fog on the quartz tube is just an eyesore, but it’s actually a killer. When water builds up on the tube or the reflector, it acts like a wall. The heater has to fight through that layer of moisture to get the heat out, which creates these nasty hotspots. Eventually, the tube just gives up. To stop this, we tweaked the shape of the housing. It encourages airflow and kills those stagnant pockets where moisture likes to hide. The result? A clear emitter and heat that actually goes where it’s supposed to. One thing to keep in mind… Here’s the trade-off: when you seal something this tight to keep water out, the heat can’t escape the chassis as easily. Because of that, the outer housing runs a bit hotter than the open-frame models you might be used to. Just make sure your mounting brackets and whatever is nearby can handle a bit of extra surface heat. Where this actually matters These are built for the messy jobs. Think food processing lines, chemical plants, or any floor where someone is regularly swinging a hose for cleanup. Instead of building a giant, clunky enclosure just to protect your lamps, you can just drop these in. They stop that annoying “splash-and-short” cycle, meaning you spend less time replacing parts and more time actually running your business.
