You need enough heat to temper the glass so it doesn’t shatter, but if you push too hard, you’ll burn your ink or distort the patterns. It’s frustrating. You want strength, but you can’t sacrifice the look. This is where gold reflector plates in your infrared furnace come into play. Why gold? Most people start with standard aluminum reflectors, but the problem is they soak up too much energy. They’re inefficient. Gold is different. It bounces back about 98% of that infrared radiation. Think of it like a mirror for heat. Instead of wasting energy, you’re shoving it right back into the glass. This means you can hit those tempering temperatures fast without having to crank your lamp wattage to the max. Keeping it running A few tips from the trenches: check your plate alignment every few months. Even a tiny tilt can shift the focal point, which leads to uneven tempering. And that’s how you end up with broken glass. Also, keep them clean. Dust is the enemy here. A thin layer of grime on that gold coating kills the reflectivity and slows your whole cycle down. Keep it shiny, keep it aligned, and your workflow will be a lot smoother.
