
Keeping Things Warm in Wet Zones
If you’re trying to heat up a changing area or a spot where people are moving between outdoors and indoors, you can’t just throw a bunch of wattage at the problem. You’ve got to deal with the moisture. Water and electricity don’t mix, obviously. That’s why we wrap these units in IP66-rated housings. In plain English? They’re dust-tight and can take a high-pressure blast of water without flinching. It keeps the guts of the machine bone-dry while the heater does the actual work.
The Magic of Shortwave Infrared
We use shortwave infrared emitters for a very specific reason. Most heaters try to warm up the air, which is a waste of time—especially in a drafty room. Shortwave radiation is different. It goes straight for the skin and clothing. It’s fast. Really fast. You don’t have to wait around for the room to “warm up.” You step in, and you feel the heat instantly. We use quartz-halogen emitters because they hit their peak temperature the second you flip the switch. No lag, no waiting.
The Practical Stuff: Setup and Trade-offs
To get this much heat into such a small box, we’re pushing a lot of power. Just a heads-up: make sure your electrical panel can handle that initial surge. If you’re installing a whole row of these, balance your load across the phases. You don’t want to be the person who keeps tripping the breakers. Also, because the IP66 seal adds some bulk to the fixture, you lose a little bit of that “straight shot” heat you get with open heaters. We fixed that by tweaking the reflector geometry. It basically pushes the heat further so you still feel it, even with the protective housing in the way.
Keeping it Running
These things are built to take a beating in humid air, but they aren’t magic. Give the seals a quick look once a year. If a gasket goes bad, moisture gets into the terminals and you’ll fry the lamp. Simple as that. Also, keep those quartz tubes clean. If dust builds up, it creates hot spots that can actually crack the glass. Just use a dry cloth. Please, stay away from chemicals—they’ll just mess everything up.
