How the Magic Happens
Inside these units, we use high-wattage quartz halogen elements. We chose quartz because it can handle insane temperatures without cracking or warping. We’ve tuned these to a very specific wavelength (0.76 to 1.4 micrometers). In plain English? That means the energy actually sinks into your skin rather than just bouncing off. It’s an instant, deep warmth. And because we use standard R7s snap-in connectors, replacing a lamp during maintenance is a breeze. Just pop the old one out and click a new one in.
The Trade-off
Now, here is the catch. Quartz glass is great for handling the shock of being switched on and off rapidly, and we’ve added some coatings to keep the glare down so you aren’t blinded. But shortwave IR is “on-demand” heat. The second you flip the switch off, the heat vanishes. You won’t get that lingering warmth you feel from a heated towel rack or a stone floor. Because of that, you’ll want a control system that’s quick and responsive to keep the temperature feeling steady.
A Quick Word on Setup
If you’re wiring these in, keep an eye on your power load. A few of these 1000W-2000W lamps can pull a lot of juice. Check your breakers before you start. You don’t want the power tripping just as you’re getting warm. Also, make sure you use moisture-resistant housings. Bathrooms are steamy, and the last thing you want is your electrical terminals corroding because of the humidity.
